Since 1994, IntSam has walked hand in hand with people in garbage dump communities, along with Samaritans like you who have a calling to help, to break the chains of poverty and impove all our lives. We achieve our goal through providing holistic scholarships to students, clean water and safe communal spaces for the community, and providing for additional needs through strategic partnerships with people and organizations around the world. As we are a Christ-centered organization, all our programming is carried out through a lens rooted in Catholic Social Teaching.

Garbage dump communities are a uniquely vulnerable population that face extreme obstacles: they face the most extreme form of poverty recognized by the United Nations; critically low life expectancy and critically high infant mortality; and very low education rates due to lack of educational opportunities. Those who live in garbage dump communities are also usually part of other vulnerable groups, including refugees from natural disasters, groups escaping political violence for their ethnicity or faith, and those so sick or disabled that they’ve been shunned by their communities (such as lepers).
