In November, an innocent soul went home to be with God. Debissa Worku, an 8-year-old in our Step by Step Scholarship Program in Ethiopia, passed away after a four year struggle with childhood diabetes.
“International Samaritan (assisted) him in every way possible, from purchasing medicine and paying medical bills to emotional support – however, it was God’s call and we were not able to save him,” says Selam Terefe, I.S. Country Director for Ethiopia.
Debissa loved soccer and going to church. He admired his aunt (pictured alongside Debissa), and studied hard in hopes of paying her back for her hard work as the family’s main breadwinner.
We mourn the loss of a promising, caring young person and pray for the Kore garbage dump community in Addis Ababa as it continues to heal from this devastating tragedy. Please consider making a donation to I.S.’s health programs in memory of Debissa.
