International Samaritan Buys New Office with Help From Karen Pulte

Karen Pulte, board member and wife of Pulte Homes founder, William Pulte, made possible International Samaritan’s purchase of a bigger office in Ann Arbor.

ANN ARBOR, MAY 13, 2013 – Local non-profit and charity, International Samaritan, has purchased and will soon be occupying the office building at 803 N. Main Street thanks to the continued generosity and support of Karen Pulte, a founder of the organization and member of the Board of Trustees. International Samaritan will close on the building on May 19, 2014 and take possession of the property immediately thereafter.
This summer, International Samaritan is celebrating its 20th anniversary of discovering the dire situation in the Guatemala City garbage dump, an event that led to the founding of the organization shortly thereafter. Over the last 20 years, the organization has increased its reach beyond Central America and today sends hundreds of volunteers to serve garbage dump communities in many countries.
According to the President and Founder Father Don Vettese, S.J. “This move is indicative of not only how our organization has grown but also how we have developed our donor base to have support from different sources.” By relocating within Ann Arbor, International Samaritan does not risk losing any of its staff or office volunteers. “Ann Arbor has been a good home to us over the years and we are blessed to have found something that meets our needs within town,” continued Vettese.
“We are very happy to continue receiving the spiritual and financial support from two of our founders, Mrs. and Mr. Pulte,” said Oscar Dussán, Executive Director of International Samaritan. Karen Pulte and her husband, William, retired founder of Pulte Homes, are founding members of the International Samaritan Board of Trustees. Currently, Mrs. Pulte is a board member and Mr. Pulte is a board council member.
International Samaritan is a non-profit organization founded in 1994 and based in Ann Arbor, Michigan. The organization, which operates on donations, strives to build good communities for the people living in and around city garbage dumps. These people are among the poorest in the world. Most communities lack basic utilities, proper housing, and safe environments for children and medical care. International Samaritan coordinates with local governments and non-profits to make sustainable improvements to these communities. For more information visit
