Students from University of Detroit Jesuit HS made two service Learning Trips to Nicaragua this past year. The first service trip, led by Br. Jim Boynton, S.J., included medical and dental personnel, as well as nurses to support them. During their week of service, these volunteers tended to more than 1,000 people and distributed medicines brought from the United States. We thank the UDJ students, teachers and medical personal for their tremendous work helping those who need it most.

Fr. Don Vettese S.J. spoke before a gathering of Rotary Club members in Toledo, Ohio. More than 250 attendees heard Fr. Vettese describe the conditions suffered by garbage dump workers in Guatemala. At the meeting, Toledo-area broker/investor and current Rotary District Governor Mrs. Helyn Bolanis pledged $25,000 on the club’s behalf to International Samaritan. Thank you, Ms. Bolanis, for the trust and generosity you show I.S.

Our stateside volunteers are very diligent and fully invested in our mission. They are also really hard workers. Rita Kieras manages the bookkeeping. Pauline Beh helps us create and organize PR material. Charles Rivetto does data entry. Karoline Hold assists with research.
Volunteers like Hannah Redigan, Barb Tuohey, Virginia Mikola, and Jim Ryder lend a hand in everything from developing projects to organizing promotional material. Our list of tireless helpers is long, and our volunteers deserve a heartfelt thank you for donating their time to help International Samaritan serve more people people more efficiently.
