BACKGROUND OF BIKING FOR BOWLS: Last year, Bart Thompson, of Ann Arbor, organized a bicycling fundraising campaign and collected nearly $20,000 to go toward International Samaritan’s school rebuilding efforts in Port-au-Prince, Haiti. Thompson and several other volunteers cycled from Ann Arbor to Harbor Springs, Michigan, a total of 335 miles. Bart was inspired to raise funds for I.S. after volunteering on an International Samaritan service trip in Guatemala City in 2007. He is a graduate of St. John’s Jesuit High School and is studying premed at Stanford University.
